Grant Guidelines

In order to accomplish the Foundation’s mission effectively and efficiently, the Board of Directors of the Elkhorn & Area Foundation have developed a thorough review process for grant applications.  The “Community” will encompass the Village of Elkhorn and surrounding areas.

All applicants will be required to complete and submit the completed Grant Application form by the March 31st deadline.

The Foundation awards grants to support local needs and interests, which include, but not limited to cultural, recreational, educational, health care, heritage, environmental and other charitable purposes.

Grants are made to Canada Revenue Agency registered charities only, never directly to individuals.  Non-profit organizations that do not have a charitable registration number must have a qualified sponsor with which they have a formalized partnership through written agreement.  The application must include confirmation of a written agreement between the sponsor and non-profit organization.

The Foundation gives preference to projects and programs where grant money will have a significant impact.  Proposals are ideally characterized by:

  • A well-planned approach
  • A base for support
  • Efficient use of resources
  • Ability to serve a need in the Community
  • Volunteer participation and citizen involvement

Elkhorn & Area Foundation will NOT fund:  Individuals, annual fund drives, political activities, direct religious activities, operating expenses, and establishing or adding to endowment funds.

Applicants receiving a grant will be required to submit a Grant Evaluation Report by December 31st of the year the grant is awarded.
